Maybe if we just rode in straight lines, this would make sense. However, the rest of us encounter turns, so front traction is usually the limiter. I can't think of a real-world reason why I would run a more aggressive tire in the rear and not the front.
Traction for climbing loose gravel on grades exceeding 25%. Around here we ride up the hills, not relax on ski lifts sipping cappuccinos while boasting to our pals about how rad and bad that last run was.
