I live in a town where I have been the only guy riding a bike for many years until only recently. I now see several lower income folks riding bikes for transportation. The town has nothing for cyclists in the way of bike paths and one cyclist was recently struck and killed. I see low-income cyclists riding all the time without helmet or even a reflector on their salvaged bikes. We have nothing like a bike co-op or even a repair shop for 70 miles, so nobody helping promote safety at all.

I would like to give something to help. Helmets would be good except that many wouldn't wear one anyway and a bit expensive. I am thinking either something to attach to a bike to make it more visible or safety vest to wear. I would appreciate suggestions for a product that would be inexpensive "I'm not exactly wealthy" and that this demographic would actually use.
