I'm interested in the tpu tubes for lightweight also and a good lightweight smooth set of tires with the low rolling resistance I've been reading about.
A local shop suggested to go a little narrower like 38 or so for more efficiency, They also didn't seem to know about tpu tubes so not sure if it was good advice.
I'm a 67yo 6'3" 270# clydsdale lol so need all the help I can get. I'm averaging around 12.5 mph on my rides but hope an upgrade will speed me up.
My budget is roughly 80 per tube and tire, Thanks for any and all advice I really would appreciate some help.
Hi MarkP, welcome to BF !
We all have our own thoughts on what works for us.
At less than 60% of your weight, I don;t think I could really know what that means for tire wear and 'performance'. ..
Tires do make a difference in the ride 'feel' and offer some advantage in the 'performance' side of things. But generally not as much as we might expect.
For a more 'targeted' array of comments, I would suggest asking your questions in the Clydes/Athena forum, and also the 50+ forum...
There's nothing poor about a tire in the 40-ish width, same can be said for 35 ish... and a good (not needing to be 'highest') tire is a joy to ride.
TPU is working well for me. I would caution to buy a TPU tube size where the the tire size you will use is not towards the upper end of the noted range of the TPU tube.
So if using 40 mm tire - a TPU tube which covers at least 45 mm or a bit more...
Ride On
