You could have ended there. Not all "parts" are compatible with other "parts", new or old. If you put a bunch of "parts" together, you have a groupset and save some money. I have two bikes, one with Shimano Di2, one with SRAM wireless. When I shop for parts, I look for parts that are compatible with the system I'm looking at. It's not rocket science.
