I’ve started to build the frame into a complete bike. I installed a new, old-stock Tange “rinko” headset, same as the original which came on the bike. This headset allows for quick disassembly of the bike for packing into a travel bag. I had the fork straightened, and it is now within spec. I also found a vintage set of Gran Compe cantilever brakes, levers, hoods, and small parts. The crank set will be a Sugino Super Maxy triple. I am not sure yet what other driveline parts I will use.

After hours of searching through Japanese articles, I found one more Nishiki “Pro” randonneur bike. The owner said it was available as a bare frame by special order from Nishiki, he ordered his in 1979. He fitted his bike with TA, Mafac, and Simplex components. While vintage European parts are common enough in Japan, I’ll use Japanese parts.

650a is the common wheel size in Japan for “mama-chari” shopping bikes, so parts are plentiful.
