Thanks to all. I feel like I made progress, proud of that, and was really hoping to DIY this. As you suggested, I used my Dremel and made a tap from a longer bolt. I was able to get it to thread all the way through, and now I can get the cage bolt in by hand. However, when I go to tighten it, the revnut still rotates. I tried the method with putting a nut and washer on the longer bolt first, to make a press to get the revnut crimped back on, but as soon as it gets even slightly tight the entire revnut still spins. I guess I’m going to have to have a shop drill it out for me. I appreciate all of the advice.
Something sounds wrong here.
You put in the bolt with a nut and a washer in the rivnut. Then you hold the bolt still with a wrench and use a second wrench to turn the nut. Since you are controlling both the nut and bolt, the rivnut is essentially trapped between them.
