Threaded is better if the shell threads are still repairable. otherwise, threadless is an option.
Velo Orange used to sell one, but looking at their site just now, I don't see it.
YST makes a threadless bottom bracket, but the shell must be chamfered 45 degrees to fit just like the Mavic threadless did years ago.
Don't know of any other options off the top of my head.
Edco made a threadless cartridge that used eccentric cups to hold the cartridge in place, but it's been out of production for many years. Another option is to ream the shell to remove the damaged threads and cut fresh Italian-spec threads (slightly larger diameter than English/ISO or metric threads) and use a standard Italian thread cartridge or cup-and-cone bottom bracket. But that requires specialized tools that many shops don't have. Look for an old, established shop that isn't afraid to service vintage bikes.
