Could be, wax does stiffen things up a touch. I would try to reinstall it and test it before getting too worried.
Got it tweaked a bit the other day with slight pressure from a chain tool. Wish I hadn't bought a SRAM chain though, not liking their connector. It's a pain to put on. Will probably swap that with a KMC.
