I use Kenda Hybrid Smooth 700x38c Tires with an added liner for puncture resistance. The trail I ride runs through some neighborhoods and I was getting flats from odd things like construction staples (likely from house reroofing crews after storms) so I replaced 700x45c tires with these and added the liner. I've had good luck with wear from Kenda tires. I had a set of Kenda City Slicks for when I trained with my old 26" MTB and after 5000 miles on paved trails they didn't show much wear, so I've moved them to my wife's e-bike.
I have 400 hundred miles on the hybrids and they still have the nubs on them. I will admit I haven't gotten off pavement too much but the tread pattern should be good for hardpack gravel trails (like rail to trail), probably not so much on mud and softer dirt. The tread is more aggressive than the Schwalbe Marathons.
They are cheaper at $40 for a pair.
