Personally I don't get why things changed to under the bottom bracket. Cables are less clean, and I feel like the routing, especially the front derailleur, is better when ran above the bottom bracket. The frame is in question has the chainstay cable stop below, rather than above, but just has some grooves in the bottom bracket rather than a plastic guide. Hence the drilling!
cheaper, cleaner look, slightly lighter, and the cables stay a bit cleaner too.... but it makes the housing bend to reach the rear der. sharper and/or longer...
the most dirty part of a bike is on top of the BB shell, behind the chainrings.
i just pulled several spider nests, mud, and a hundred or so fir needles out of a Gary Fisher Hoo Koo E Koo BB area
oh, and an earwig scurried out too!
the bike's a donation, wearing Deore jewelry, Origin8 adjustable levers, a Manitou bouncy thing, and a pair of decent looking Kenda Straight 8s,, so i'm not complaining one bit
