Question Stem Change For Comfort On Specialized Diverge

5”2” woman wants to be more comfortable on Specialized Diverge Aluminum Bike. Hi all. I just bought a 2025 49cm Specialized Diverge Elite E5 - Aluminum Frame. I will be using this as a road bike.

Specs for this bike show a stem length of 60mm and the printing on the stem itself shows 60mm x 7 degrees. Specs for the bike also show a reach of 365 mm.

I wanted to sit more upright and (maybe?) a little less reach so my bike fitter sold me this adjustable stem:

Kalloy Adjustable Stem AS-820 Length 110mm, Barbore 31.8mm, Steerer 28.6 mm. The adjustment is set at the midpoint of 30.

The midpoint adjustment of 30 gives me the height I like, but the reach is too far away. I think if the length were the same as the 60mm which was standard on the bike, and I could get up as high as the adjustable bars are set, I would be happy. I realize that adding more height to a 60 cm length stem is going to effectively shorten my reach. I don’t know the math on this, but if it shortens just a little bit, I think it might be good.

So, a couple of questions:

1. Can you suggest a stem that might satisfy my needs?

2. The bike salesman/fitter told me I could not add spacers to the stock stem that came with the bike. Do you agree?

3. Are there other solutions?

Thanks for taking the time to read this!
