Usually if I have that it's after most of the climbing is done. Years ago we would do longish rides in the Santa Monica mountains and stop at this little store that had a grill and get their tri-tip chili. So good on a cold day and they had a fireplace outside. Sadly it burned down during the Woolsey fire in 2018.
There was a little cafe in the San Gabriel mountains which also had chili. Not as good as the other place but tasted fine on a cold day after several thousand feet of climbing. That cafe burned down during the Station fire in 2009 after being there close to 100 years.
We used to do a loop north of here where there was nothing on the route for like 60 miles except for a little bar that had a grill. One time about 12 of us went in there and ordered BLT sandwiches. The lady was happy to have the business but we ate a lot of her food and she didn't have enough for the locals. She wanted us to call ahead "next time". A BLT is great on a ride.
