The gap between my dust cap and the hub is about 1/16”.

I took 79pmooney’s advice and just put the thing together and took it out for a ride. I pushed the desk caps and as far as I could push them, and of course the wheel was not spinning freely at all, but maybe tolerable. I’ll take some more pictures of the relationship between the locknuts cones and dust cap.

today I took my first ride on this new old bike. It’s pretty clear to me that Campagnolo did not have index shifting figured out. I spent quite a bit of time trying to get the shifting correct but that will be a separate thread.🤪
1980s C-Record does not really work with Syncro. It might function with a corn cob, but I could not get function with a 13-26.
The Athena derailleur works the best, followed by Croce and Chorus.

I would either get an Athena derailleur or Doppler/Simplex shift levers.

I hope you didn't actually ride the hub in this state.
