Perhaps you are correct about the law and/or motorist behavior where you live; don't expect to stay healthy or get much legal support if injured while stepping off the curb at an uncontrolled (by physical sign, crosswalk markings or signal) intersection in the face of approaching traffic on the East Coast or Midwest of the U.S.

You can also expect to wait all day for fast traffic to stop for a pedestrian standing on the curb at such an intersection.
