Which part of Tahoe are you going to? You mentioned Truckee so I'm going to assume Tahoe City/Northlake area. I grew up going there multiple times a year with my parents, such a beautiful area and plenty of outdoor stuff to do and see.
If you get the chance, go to Sunnyside for dinner one of the nights, It's just over a couple miles south of Tahoe City proper. It was the family favorite and we made sure to go at least once every visit. I recall there typically being a few absolutely gorgeous wooden power boats docked there, usually Chris Craft.
