Better ventilated helmet? It's been drilled into winter sports to keep your head warm to prevent heat loss, especially with lots of blood vessel area on top of your head. For cooling down, the opposite should apply.
Regarding the torso cooling you felt, no surprise, heat of vaporization (evaporative cooling) increases cooling of anything immensely, provided air conditions are such to allow fast evaporation. It's why, on a summer day, you step out of a pool and are suddenly shivering, that's from the water on your skin evaporating quickly. Dry off, and you stop shivering.
