Heat really affects me now. I always ride wearing a HRM and can tell when it's time to back down, find a shady spot, and rest. My HR normally goes up on efforts/climbs (and there are plenty of those around here) but drops back to normal quickly. When it gets really hot, I notice the recovery time starts to increase. Once I finished a particularly hard climb that maxed out my BPM. I was enjoying the long downhill coast, but my HR stayed up there, only coming down a small amount. At the bottom of the descent I stopped, rested under a shady tree, and drank a whole bunch of Gatorade. When my HR finally came down, I got back on the bike but took it really easy. It was 94 degrees and humid that day.
What is weird is the dr said the lca became blocked between 6 months and 10 years ago. I am 67 and 7 years ago at 60 I suddenly just ran out of gas- no energy, no stamina. Sounds like not a coincidence.
I have had several checkups with a cardiologist starting before that and none of my ecgs show signs of a heart attack. I have had 2-3 cardio stress tests and aced them. I don’t get out of breath, my pulse goes up slowly exercising and goes down at a normal speed. I have had no chest pains. None of my blood work shows signs of a heart attack.
I had a sonogram of my heart, aorta and carotid doppler today. I should get those results soon.
I will be taking another stress test to make sure the bypass I grew is delivering enough blood. If not doc is going through the femoral and poking the blockage with a harder probe.
I’m restricted to lifting only 5 pounds for 5 days and not exercising for the same. After that I will be on my bike or at the gym depending on the temp.
The toughest part of the heart cath was they went through my wrist. My right wrist. I’m right handed. 😄
I have no idea if this is why it is so tough to do longer rides.
