Gates generally recommends just washing off the belt but I have seen them suggest CRC Silicone Spray in really dry conditions. I wouldn't really put anything else on it. I know there are people who use alternative substances and soaps and what not but really stick with what Gates recommends. Gates makes the belts and they generally know what is best for them for longest life.
