byw the 3x is actually better at hills (than a more common 2x with the same cassette) because it has a small ring typically only 30T while the smallest 2nd ring you tend to get on road bikes is 34T

The reason I brought it up I thought it was a 2x with 52 & 39 which is big. But someone else noticed it has that third smaller ring so my perceived gearing problem on hills was mistaken.

On current gen bikes this disadvantage of 2x has been mitigated by cassettes and rear derailleurs that can have at least 34T on the back and then you also get 1x these days which have a single chainring and massive range of cogs on the back. The downside of 3x is it’s a bit more fiddly to get the cable tension just right and it needs a bit more space of course, so it’s pretty much disappeared from road bikes now but I kind of miss mine. It got me up a beast of a 30% incline in the Fred Whitton.
