Maryland Cycling Classic, Sep 6, 2025

Courtesy announcement. The USA's top tier road race for 2025 is happening Saturday, Sep 6 in a circuit around Baltimore. 3rd edition of the men's race, UCI ProSeries. Preceded that day by the first edition of the women's race.

Teams here. Startlist isn't public yet but will eventually appear somewhere else on that organizer site and here on PCS. Lots more info on the organizer site. The race is cleverly situated on the calendar the week before the Quebec and Montreal races, possibly luring in a few riders who are making the trip across the pond anyway.

Here's the course. 17.9 mile city circuit. 4 laps for the women, 6 for the men. It runs through the scenic inner harbor and Fells Point (500m of legit cobbles) and includes a long slog north to a ~900m hill climb near the seminary with gradients briefly up to ~10%. Something for everyone.

The first few years the race did a long wander through the country north of Baltimore and around Prettyboy Reservoir before bombing down Falls Rd into a shorter city circuit. Only 46 of 109 riders made the circuit cuts in year 1. 66 of 111 in year 2. This year, the longer circuit will probably have a shorter cut. There is out & back traffic on Falls Rd heading from the central city loop to/from the northern loop. Falls Rd won't take two way rider & caravan traffic so there will probably be a steep cut to preclude the leaders bombing southward down the hill into the laughing bunch still making its way northward. TBD.

BTW, the Dodgers are in town to play the Orioles, too. Charm City should be hopping. Enjoy your day at the races if you make the trip.
