If you really want to save a favorite pair of shoes, especially if newer shoes aren't a good option, obtain thyself a big tube of Shoe Goo or Amazing Goop. I resurrected my current Shimano SPD shoes with the stuff several years ago after a similar failure, and the soles and uppers still look like they're in a very secure relationship.

Shoe Goo, Barge contact cement and a leather sewing needle have allowed me to keep my wonderful 1998 Lake mtn. shoes riding strong! They look kinda crappy, but they're still as functional and comfy as they were 27 years ago!
