In our local Facebook marketplace, it is Bikemageddon for older road bikes, and it won't get better for sellers going into the fall. If I didn't already have an irresponsibly excessive bike fleet, then I'd be tempted to buy now.

Partially due to almost everyone over 50 or under 20 is on either an ebike or a motorized scooter.

I'm being very selective in my purchases now; if it is a 10-20 year old 'dream' bike with lots of titanium or carbon, then I'd consider buying. Otherwise, a generic alu-framed 15-year old road bike with low to mid-range components has little resale value.

Which is a shame, as most riders who have a respectable BMI, are predominately on the road, and don't spend a lot of time descending in the rain, would be better served by a 15-year old rim-brake bike with 25mm tires. As a package, these bikes are lighter, less fussy, faster, and a lot less expensive than walking into a shop and buying new. And you don't have the disconcerting experience of squishy 35mm tires pumped to 50 psi wallowing around on pavement.
