I wish I hadn't seen this build. I have a 70s UE 8 that has been kicking around my garage because I couldn't quite figure out how I wanted to do the build. And, of course, a 3 speed build with a dynamo up front is more or less a perfect way to finish off the bike.
This how the bike looked like when I first picked it up. I used to have a UO 8 commuter (it was ripped off) but these bikes make a great platform for a utility bike. The quirky stuff about French bikes is just sort of endearing on a commuter and the UO series can take a large volume tire and fenders. Plus the UE 8 comes stock with a high quality rear rack, fenders and a real honest to goodness kickstand plate.
