When I lived in Virginia Beach and worked in Norfolk I had a 46-mile (RT) commute and I would have to leave about 5am. I don't remember how long it took to "warm-up" in the warmer part of the season, but when it was cold out, it took me 6-miles to warm-up -- it was miserable, but it was funny because there seemed to be something magical about that 6-mile point in the commute. It never failed.
