I would get him a regular bike that looks slightly like what the friends are riding but of quality. Skip the E-bikes, e-mopeds and e-scooters. Kids don't need anything with a throttle and really don't need an electric bike, they have loads of energy or should. All the kids who have gotten the e-mopeds and motorcycles in my area generally turn bad in a short period. I have seen some really good kids that turned bad after getting them and I know it is not just the vehicle but it is the lifestyle around it and the new friends they keep around them who also ride them. Two of our best interns turned into two kids who are persona non-grata not long after getting their vehicles and the one kid who was one of the worst interns actually improved hanging out with them less and riding a regular bike. Not a major improvement mind you but he matured they regressed.

I have a feeling because I know enough parents these days that you are going to get him an e-bike, I don't recommend it but if you must get a good quality brand that has excellent support behind it. Don't just buy it online because the price seemed good it isn't.
