I worked in a few shops over a 40 year period and purchased only a few bikes that we sold because they were exactly what I wanted, however in 2001 we didn't have anything from Specialized, Litespeed, Giant or the other euro brands we had access to that I personally wanted. I designed and fabricated my own frame and it is exactly what I wanted. From that point on the only bikes I rode and continue to ride are the ones I designed and fabricated myself, or vintage bikes.

The point is, get the exact bike you want, regardless of your commitment to a particular shop.
