Keeping the hybrid for commuting, the city or errands sounds like a good idea, even for touring. It's hard to have the best of all worlds in one single multirole bike.
If you can find a nice used road bike for exercise and longer rides, i'd say you don't even need the carbon frame, keep the money for better and faster tires, maybe wheels, and there are always hidden costs if you ride a lot parts needs to be replaced, tires, drive train, also clothes, equipment...
That would be the first solution in fact, just replace your current tires with something faster like gp 5k with mr tuffy liners, and try to adjust your bike fit for longer rides. Unless you are riding at 40 km/h / 25 mph you probably won't be much faster with a more aerodynamic bike.
