About the time this thread was born I was driving back eastbound on I-80 in central Illinois when I was passed by what I took to be an early Tesla, one of those built on a Lotus chassis.
Was the first one I'd ever seen... I was doing maybe 70 mph in the right lane in my Mini Cooper S, they were in the left doing maybe 80+. It was a red one.
Gas back then was I think close to $4.50 a gallon for Premium, which my S required. I've had two more Minis since then, one S and one just FI. All three probably agg'd close to 327,000 miles in the 20 years I drove 'em.
Driving a 2017 Subaru Impreza now, gets decent gas mileage with a 2.0l six. I get gas maybe once a month, it's Regular at I believe $2.95 / gallon when I filled up two weeks ago.
In 2007 those Regular gallons would have been $1.89 in today's dollars, which is absurd. The Premium I was buying back then, in today's dollars would be $7.03 / gallon, which it ain't at the pumps I visit now.
