This week I acquired an old Trek 800 MTB that I converted using a coaster brake wheelset I already had .
I removed the heavy steel parts except for the seatpost . It’s a 26.6mm and hard to locate at a decent price . I’ve ordered a shim to allow me to use a 25.4 post .
I have a red and a green coaster brake set of wheels , so I can easier swap out the color scheme if I want .
The bike looks grey in the picture but it’s actually silver .
At my age it’s all about making the hills easier to climb and skinny tires and low gears help .
This one spins out around 12mph .
The chain is a little looser than I prefer but I haven’t dropped the chain yet and it’s quiet and smooth pedaling.
I am replacing my collection of Electra Cruisers with these BMX conversions .
The pedal forward design of the Electra bikes was messing up my knees .
