Well, Tom, all I can say is that it was short-sighted of you not to drink more so you would have something to give up to cure your acid reflux.
When I used to lead commercial bike tours, I spent a lot of nights in fancy Vermont inns that I would never have been able to go to on my own. I once quietly asked a server at one of them if she was sure the after-dinner decaf she was bringing me was really decaf. She said she was, and told me why: after 8 PM, the kitchen stopped making decaf, so that's what everyone was served, whether they had requested decaf or regular. I asked her if regular-coffee drinkers ever complained that they had been brought decaf by mistake. "No," she said. "No one ever notices."
I suppose it would be different at an all-night truck stop, where drivers were depending on coffee to stay awake and alive. That is, they might not notice that they were being served decaf, but it would be dangerous and irresponsible serve it to them.
