You could strap up with a non-lethal defense pistol, like the Byrna. Hitting a dog with a kinetic pellet would probably do the trick, but you could load alternating kinetic and pepper spray pellets, for a more broad spectrum defense. They're not cheap, but hey, it's something.
I kind of like the idea of that Byrna gun. Keep it holstered on my hip for easy deployment. Only thing I don't like about those is someone could see you draw that and think you are shooting their dog, and potentially fire something
actually lethal back at you.
