I put two sets of Microshift brifters on my kids' bikes and they worked totally fine. They shift with a loud clack, so every shift is very positive.
They are a known quantity. The reason people don't talk about them much any more is that they don't have any electronic groupsets. They are letting the Chinese groupset makers lap them on that.
