It basically has steel spring plates doing the same thing the Lauf fork has carbon spring plates for - providing some vertical compliance to smooth out road/gravel vibrations in situations where you don't particularly need a full suspension fork.
That's mostly just a springer fork with single leaf springs instead of coils and pivots. I wonder what happens to the heat affected zone with all that flexing.
