They are fun to drive if you don't mind oil drops on the floor, unexplained and intermittent electrical issues, rattles and squeaks, and other cute characteristics!
I rebuilt the entire undercarriage - the body still creaks a bit, but otherwise pretty quiet. I moved all of the electrics over to modern relays and upgraded wiring, converted all the lights to LEDs, electric fan etc - I didn’t do anything as drastic as a 5sp conversion - rebuilt the original overdrive - but otherwise prioritized drivability and reliability over strict originality. Miata seats for comfort and headrest speakers, so I can actually hear what I’m playing😀. New modern sealing block took care of the oil leaks. I didn’t do anything to the engine - thrust washers were good and oil pressure and compression was good - otherwise everything was rebuilt
