Yes, as Brent mentioned, I used to race for Team Parkpre as a junior back in the day. The team was traditionally called Conejo Velo Club/CVC, which is still the team name today, but they changed names while Parkpre sponsored the Team.

The basic details mentioned above are correct. The lead designer was Cozy Yamakoshi, who founded the company after working at Western States Imports (Centurion & Diamond Back). Cozy’s two sons Ben and Ken were also junior racers on the team around my age, and I am still in touch with Ken via Facebook. Mr. Park was the business and financial backer, as I recall, though I was not really involved with that side of it. I did meet Mr. Park at his home and also visited the Moorpark headquarters on several occasions.

The bikes were made in Taiwan by Fairly as noted previously. It’s possible they built some smaller batches elsewhere, but I just don’t know. In addition to road and mountain bikes, I do recall seeing a very small number of track and TT bikes (though it’s possible these may have been repainted?). I do still remember the day going to the Moorpark HQ to pick up our new team race bikes after returning from the Whiskey Creek Stage Race in Mammoth. It was the first time I had seen a Parkpre road bike. They were definitely more oriented toward MTBs, but did also have some nice road bikes (though I don’t ever recall seeing any road bikes for sale in any the local bike stores). The original team bikes were made with Tange Prestige tubing.

Many of the early Parkpre bikes, used a combination of fade and splatter paint that was popular in the late 80s/early 90s. I recall that Landshark had a few custom bikes in the style, and I always thought they may have been the inspiration. The first team bikes were pink and white fade with blue splatter. A couple years later, Shaklee became a sponsor of the men’s team and the colors changed to a blue/gray/yellow mix if I recall correctly.

My buddy, teammate, friend, and riding partner Johnny Mutolo (RIP) went on to win the Jr. World MTB Championship on a Parkpre in 1991 in Italy. That’s one of his old Parkpre MTBs that I’m proud to own now. Here’s a recently posted video of that WC performance. You get a good shot of Johnny on the Parkpre around 4:10 and raising his arms in victory with Parkpre logo over the stars & stripes jersey around 8:25.
