You do know that hybrids came in a variety of price points, don’t you? Yes, older hybrids could be inexpensive and had lower level components on them. They could also be of higher quality with better components. I’ve worked with enough of them, however, to know that the quality of the components on older hybrids is actually pretty good, especially compared to more modern offerings. Think Alvio and Acera compared to the truly awful Tourney used on so many today.

And, again, let’s give some credit to the people thinking about doing this kind of conversion. There are enough of those higher quality hybrids out there that the very cheapest hybrid doesn’t have to be used.
