Mom's side of the family is an old New York family named Stillwell. My 7th great-grandfather lived in what is now Manhattan as early as 1639. He owned one of the 5 boweries (farms), where he grew tobacco.
For those of you who know New York, his property faced the East River and extended from what is now East 34th Street to East 47th Street. His house was at the river's edge, near the foot of East 45th Street.
