For the average C&V rider, the price is very likely another issue.

The top notch graphite fiber bikes, like the Scultura, cost $5k to $10k. If you are pursuing that last little bit of speed for your daily ride, bring MONEY!

A very high quality lugged-steel bike can be had for just 5-10% of that price ($500 to $1k). Many or most steel C&V bikes can be had for far less than even that (how does 1% or $100 sound).

I'm sorry to say, this article just doesn't make sense to me in the context of C&V bikes. Then again, I'm not a bicycling professional (sales, marketing, etc). I'm also not a racer and I'm certainly not a sponsored racer.

The only reason I'm participating in this thread is because it reminded me why, after so many years of reading, I stopped subscribing to cycling publications. Thanks for that "refresher course".

It has stopped raining, maybe I should go out for a ride before it starts again.
