My carbon fiber 2019 Argon 18 Gallium with aero carbon wheels and disc brakes is absolutely faster than my 1992 Lemond Maillot Jaune with 32 spoke Mavic Open rims. I probably add 5-10 minutes on a 30 mile ride with the same effort. I especially feel it descending as it really feels like the carbon wheelset accelerates very quickly. Also, I feel like disc brakes allow faster descending as you can wait longer before a turn to apply them. However, if you are not racing or trying to stay with a group, it really doesn't matter. It goes without saying that the Lemond has WAY more style!
