I read the book
The Great North Road: London to Edinburgh – 11 Days, 2 Wheels and 1 Ancient Highway and was inspired to do it too. It's a fun read.
The author, Steve Silk, discussed his overall route and itinerary, but not the exact details. I've been playing with Google Maps (bicycle routes) and came up with a general approach at this
link.
The one difference is that I would swing through Nottingham and check out the city that produced my 1971 Raleigh Sports. I'm also thinking about doing the trip on my Raleigh. The average miles per day is 45, so that's very doable. I was thinking about booking B&B's or Homestays in advance. So, not much gear to carry in panniers.
I am wondering if others here have done this trip and have any advise or experiences to share Or, if there are others who may want to join me? I'm thinking about doing this in June of 2026.
