Even though a butchered derailleur hanger is a terrible thing, there's an upside to taking possession of a bike has already been despoiled that way--it lets you use any derailleur you want without bearing any moral stigma.
Haha, I have seen the hacksaw mods and am glad this one isn’t as drastic.
I agree that the job on this one is clean, and ultimately I think it’s for the best from a functionality standpoint. Sometimes I get hung up on the idea of keeping things original and unchanged, but this gives me more options.
