I have a hearing loss. I'd miss many voice directions from GPS while riding. For safety I don't take eyes off the road to check directions, be it from device or paper. I'll stop to check the route. That's why paper works for ME. Not because I'm old & set in my ways or have "entrenched beliefs".
You could do the same thing using a GPS (a smartphone is a GPS).
No one cares if you prefer paper maps (
lots of people use them successfully) but you don’t really seem to know how a GPS can be used.
While things aren’t going to be the same for everybody, it’s not much of a problem to safely keep an eye on a GPS map. It might take some practice but it isn’t hard.
