Bike wash in winter

This topic must have been raised in the past, but it wasn't readily apparent in a quick search, so pardon me for raising it again.

Now that the streets are full of salt and sand (at least here in the northeast US), what are your solutions for cleaning the bike after rides? I'm not standing in the cold with a garden hose. I carried a bike up to my second floor shower once. I'm happy with how clean I got the bike, but it left sand in the bottom of the tub and a tire mark on the wall. There has to be a better way.
