unless you backpedal a LOT, and your freewheel/hub drags way to much, it'll be ok.
OR.. go buy a bunch of quick links at 6 bucks each, use a new one each time you do simple maintenance,, then realize you just spent more than a new chain on them.
i always put QLs on with the inner slip pin head at the rear of chain direction... that way, during rear shifting, the pin is pushed into the keyhole.
as an experiment, i began using those "el cheapo Chinese" QLs two years ago... the ones with the pyramid mark on them..
not one failure.
i spin way fast, sometimes shift without letting off, stomp up hills regularly, and backpedal to warn walkers on the trails.
i just bought twenty more, for shop use.
The quick link is by definition the weak link of the chain, right? It's the only one that comes apart. The only time I've had chain trouble, it's been the quick link. Probably not the quick link design - probably user error putting it together.
