How many of us old guys can actually achieve that position, let alone maintain that position?
What I typically see - yes, my anecdotal experience- is a bunch of riders in far from optimal aero positions riding around in local group rides or when just out and about. Nor are they capable of the speeds required to see the aero gains from the aero bikes/parts being sold.
And while the OP is starting a thread to stir the pot about CF - from his screen name and this seemingly being his first leap into CF stuff - he is riding a steel frame and probably regular old wheels. So leaping into CF aero bars, while riding a steel frame, not being pro level aero body position wise (maybe the OP happens to be a flat backer???) - will gain him what, 1/16th of a MPH - maybe?
