I used to use a hard wood dowel, slotted with a hacksaw to hold the spokes, no scratching the finish.
Now I use one of a couple of plastic pucks with different width slots in them, Mavic offers one.
Be sure not to up the tension any when truing that wheel, if you have one be sure to keep the tension with in Mavics reccomendations.
