To each his own, but if the grains were that big on MY gravel trails, I'd go with proper front suspension.
Mine look more like this:

My personal preference is a rigid fork and no suspension of any type. Yes it can be a bumpy ride sometimes but I don't have a problem with that. I am just a recreational rider so I don't feel a need for suspension, if I was actually competing in an off road event I would definitely go with a suspension fork. Here is a type of trails I ride without using any type of suspension..
