Putting your old bike back into service is a good first step, but road bikes have gotten a whole lot more comfortable, especially if you have no racing aspirations.

eBikes make the re-entry a lot more tolerable, and you're the kind of guy who is going to put in the work. You can also use them for daily errands without needing to dress up or get sweaty all the time.
