My mom used to carry my sister in a similar fashion, except it was just a Wald wire basket without the leg holes. She laid a blanket in first to pad the edges and my sister hung her legs over the side. I still vividly recall the time my mom was walking the bike to cross a street and dumped my sister onto the the sidewalk when the front wheel hit the curb. Luckily she only had some minor scratches. My mom didn't carry her in the basket anymore after that.
