Aren't there other things on the bike that need regular maintenance? If you never want to get your hands dirty, get a buscard. I ride campy records, 32h and 36h, hop curbs, skid, whatever, with no problems whatsoever and I'm not exactly svelte. Now my tubular gluing skills.......
